Dr. Damaris-Lois Yamoah Lang

BSc-MedSc, M.A., MPhil, PhD.

Dr. Damaris-Lois Y Lang's professional journey is deeply rooted in a dedication to education and growth. With a diverse academic background, she has honed her leadership skills and expertise through renowned institutions. She completed the Executive Education in Public Leadership program at Harvard Kennedy School, where she focused on problem-solving, strategic thinking, and collaborative decision-making. She holds a Ph.D. and an MPhil in Biology, focusing on the Neurobiology of Behavior, from The Graduate Center, CUNY, NY.  Additionally, Dr. Lang's academic achievements include a Master of Arts in Biology from Lehman College and a B.Sc.-Med.Sc. in Medical Sciences from the University of Ghana Medical School. With over two decades of service at CUNY, she transitioned from being a Full Professor of Biology to an Academic Dean at AU, supporting STEM programs. Dr. Lang has played various roles in academia, including Science Program Director, has chaired several institution committees, and served in academia in various roles, supporting underrepresented students. Continuously seeking improvement, she is currently pursuing another master's degree (MPhil) at Teachers College, Columbia University, and a second doctorate (Ph.D.) at Columbia University. The study seeks to understand how these philosophical approaches influence instructional methods and their subsequent effects on student learning outcomes. In addition, it explores potential interventions that can enhance both student success and the accessibility of science education. She hopes to elucidate the connection between education theory and practice and enhance a constructivist approach to student instruction and learning.

Engaged in community service, Dr. Lang serves as an elected Board of Trustee official at Hastings on Hudson Union Free School District, recognized by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Additionally, she holds the position of Founding President at P-CoC Inc., where her focus centers on education, advocacy, and outreach initiatives. Dr. Lang's dedication to equity is evident in her guiding principles of ethos, empathy, and equity. In addressing the intricate role of diversity in achieving societal equity, she argues that the process resembles understanding that puzzles fit together because of their differences. She emphasizes that societal equity involves neither erasing nor ignoring differences but acknowledging and balancing these distinctions to cultivate a climate of equitable coexistence. Advocating for a non-political, humanistic approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, her goal is to create equitable opportunities for all individuals to succeed. 


Dr. Lang's impact extends to her involvement in keynote talks, panels, and workshops on governance, student engagement, and career guidance. She engages with various organizations, providing academic and community-based presentations across diverse platforms, underlining Dr. Lang's commitment to empowerment, education, and positive change.
